Apartment update & pics of NYU.

 We got approved on the apartment at The Octagon on Roosevelt Island! We were so relieved... The bad news is because we have to use a guarantor that lives in California, we had to push back our move in date another couple of days so he could overnight the original signed lease back here to NY. So now it looks like we won't be able to move in until Monday or Tuesday! We are annoyed and frustrated, but at least we have a place to live. After you get approved and start signing the leases, they let you stay in their guest suite until you can actually move into your apartment. So we are staying here until the 28th because someone else has reserved it then. They said they can hopefully transfer us into another space until Monday or Tuesday. My parents left last night to go see all the East Coast Capitals. They will swing back to NYC on their way back to Utah to drop off the rest of our stuff that we weren't allowed to bring into the guest suite with us. We are so grateful for all their help and patience helping us find a place to live and taking us to see a bunch of potential apartments. We were so focused on finding a place to live, that we haven't done much. We did go to NYU and check it out. We also walked around Washington Square which is right next to NYU. Just an update on NY if you're interested... We arrived in NY early Tuesday morning after a long, no sleep, red eye flight. My parents and my grandma were there to help us with 6 big bags and to pick us up. They were a lifesaver! It was great seeing a familiar face in a strange new city! They had looked for places, and looked in different neighborhoods for us on Monday all day and had no luck. The neighborhoods were too sketchy or they were sold, or too much money. We started early Tuesday morning looking for places. We had a few appointments and none of them worked out! We've learned that there are some really bad parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. We fell in love with some great looking apartments and in our price range, but the hoods they were in we just wouldn't feel comfortable walking outside our apartment! It's funny, we've never had to think about that before. We've never been more frustrated in all of our lives! Finally we decided to check out Roosevelt Island. It's a small island in-between Manhattan and Queens. Apparently it's the safest place to live in all of New York! We liked the apartment in the second building we saw on the island and decided to go for it even though it was way over our budget! We went through a lengthy application process and went back and forth with John's parents whom are being our guarantors, sice we technically don't have any income now. This was on Thursday. The next day they called us in the afternoon to tell us we needed more documents and a letter from NYU stating that John indeed goes there. We drove all the way to Manhattan from Long Island where we had been, and come to find out the computers were down at the admissions office and they were about to close! Just our luck! John went to another building and had them print off his acceptance letter in hopes that was good enough. We hurried and faxed it to the leasing office, but we still don't know if that paper was good enough or if we got approved! We have been looking at tons more apartments all over Manhattan just in case we don't get this apartment. We found one that is steps away from NYU, but it had so many cons we decided against it! The application process here is unreal! We've had quite the culture/sticker shock, but are hoping that this place goes through and can move in sometime this week! It's been hard living out if suitcases and staying in a motel that smells like weed every night and in a really bad part of Brooklyn... We went to our supposed new ward today in Manhattan and that was really nice! I'm grateful for a calm in this storm they call New York City! The church is true and I'm grateful my family is here to help us out! As of right now I miss California... Hopefully I'll be able to not say/feel that way once we get settled! Les Miserables.

John's parents got us tickets to Les Miserables last Saturday to celebrate him being done taking the Bar! John and I had never seen it before so it was really fun to see. Thanks so much Crisp family. I just took a few snapshots with my phone. There is only one good one that Debbie took outside the theater in LA. Afterwards we went at ate at Philippe's in LA. Yummy! I'm off to do MORE packing. We move on Saturday! Yikes!
